With less than a month to round up the year 2020, Netflix released over a hundred movies thus far. This court drama movie tells the story of seven people who were charged by the Federal Government after a riot took place at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Their defense team faced a biased and unjust system in the build-up to the final verdict. Each hearing tipped them further away from a favored judgment.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 became a headliner due to the story’s real-life resemblance to today’s political environment. The movie gave people something to relate to amidst the devastating effects of the pandemic. Critics and audiences alike praised the film for its brilliant screenplay. More importantly, actors Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne put up a scintillating performance that blew their fans off their seats.

2. The Devil All The Time

Rating – 7.1

This thriller is based on the novel by writer Donald Ray Pollock. Although the movie is slow-paced and dark, viewers still appreciated the performances put up by the cast, especially Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland.

The Devil All the Time tells the story of a small but corrupt town. While they all lead separate lives, each of their stories will eventually converge to one, especially for a young man who seeks vengeance for his loved ones after experiencing tragedy.

3. The Forty-Year-Old Version

Rating – 7.1

Radha Blank took on many roles in the build-up to her movie. The actor starred, directed, wrote, and produced the critically acclaimed movie. Viewers compliment the movie for its refreshing and breathtaking story. The movie tells of a struggling 40-year old woman who changes the trajectory of her lifestyle into something different and rewarding.

4. The Half Of It

Rating – 6.9

The Half of It is a compelling story of a young girl’s experience in love at first sight. Ellie Chu is hired by the school jock to write love letters to his crush. Her world turns upside down when she realizes that she also loves the same person.

5. The Boys In The Band

Rating – 6.8

The Boys in the Band focuses on a house party among gay friends. However, things take a turn at the party when a game leads to each person revealing their true feelings to the people around them.

6. Extraction

Rating – 6.7

Tyler Rake is recruited on a rescue mission to save an Indian boy kidnapped in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  The rescue mission does not go as planned. Tyler is faced with the impossibility of succeeding in his mission of bringing the boy home to his family.

7. I’m Thinking Of Ending Things

Ratings – 6.7

This horror movie tells the story of a lady traveling with her boyfriend to meet his parents for the first time. The young woman contemplates breaking up with him. However, things do not appear as they seem as she goes through a series of unusual events around the town.

8. The Old Guard

Ratings – 6.6

Andy and her team of immortal mercenaries are on the run to protect their freedom from a dangerous scientist who learns about their immortality. While trying to hide, they discover a new member that also possesses the power, which complicates their mission.

9. Enola Holmes

Rating – 6.6

Enola Holmes, younger sister to Sherlock Holmes, embarks on a journey to learn the truth about her mother’s disappearance in hopes of bringing her back home safely. However, her mission is complicated when she comes across a young lord whose life is in danger.

10. Over The Moon

Rating – 6.6

A young girl named Fei Fei builds a rocket ship to fulfill her dreams of meeting the moon goddess. When she somehow succeeds, she witnesses a whole new world with her bunny Bungee and stepbrother Chin.

It does not stop there with Netflix as they continue to release quality movies on their platform. Their movies gave us something to live for this year. We all hope they continue to give us more amazing movies to keep us company.
