When we think of 2020, many images come to mind. For some, their minds completely move to the devastating effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Others however see the year in a different light. One such group of people are the streamers.
An online streamer
While 2020 has been a devastating year yet for businesses and other ventures, online marketing has seen a rise in sales which is not surprising. The spike could be attributed to the “stay at home” orders by various governments in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
While the virus may have brought so many disadvantages, the streamers would beg to differ on this one.
2020 The Year For Streamers
Just a few years ago, streaming was regarded as a hobby and nothing more. People did not consider a career in streaming. All that has indeed changed with time. In recent years, streamers have come off strongly, making millions of dollars from streams, endorsements, and merchandise.
Streaming has become one of the top-ranking most paid jobs at the moment. Take YouTubers for example. They get paid anywhere between $0.01 to $0.03 per view. This translates to $3-$5 per 1000 views, and up to $5,000 for 1,000,000 views. So for someone who streams twice a week and averages over a million views per stream, he/she will make $10,000 per week. Cool right? Now imagine their net income from streaming alone.
This is just for YouTube. Most streamers often combine YouTube with Twitch and a host of other platforms. They make legit money from doing what they love.
Given that the year has been distorted by the pandemic, most people worked from home. Staying at home all day long presents its problems. It could tend to be boring without entertainment. Then comes streamers to the rescue!

Most people have found their entertainment from online streams. The streams could be about various things, one just needs to find the niche in which they fit into. It could be gaming, music, beauty, or just funny videos. All that available for just one click.
This new trend saw an explosion in the numbers of views and subs this year more than ever before. Streamers metamorphosed from having barely tens of thousands of followers to millions and counting.
Streamers like Charli D’Amelio became the most reached the 100M followers threshold in no time, exploding onto the scene. These new trends of celebrities are taking over the social space with their newly found wealth.
This, the irony of life has positioned streamers for greatness. While others lament the loss of jobs, others marvel at their newfound ones. One will then wonder if this online streaming will become the new normal. 2021 is on the cards. We await to see if it’s an even better year for the new normal to thrive.
