We wanted to dive deeper into Dan and his story, here’s what he had to say:
Cox: Why did you want to become an influencer?
Shutes: When I started Tiktok, I had no idea I would gain over 100K followers. I simply wanted to share my passion for teaching, offer advice, motivation, and inspiration. I suppose I have been able to do that and it’s been a joy thus far. I’m glad I have the reach that I do so I can hopefully bring more positivity to the world.
Cox: Why is your content unique?
Shutes: Male elementary teachers aren’t as common as one might think, knowing that, I think I offer up a unique perspective. I also think my athletic and coaching background adds a motivational component to my content that you don’t see very often amongst educators.
Cox: What led to the success of your influencer career?
Shutes: Being genuine is huge! Far too often I see small content creators trying to mimic what other people have already done. This may garner temporary success but to have a long lasting impact on a platform, one must provide authentic, original, and genuine value to other people. I believe I have been able to do just that.

Cox: What are your goals for the future?
Shutes: I just hope to continue to extend my reach on the world. I have a passion for what I do and I want to share that with as many people as possible. I want to provide real value for parents, families, students, teachers, and educators.
Cox: What is your favorite part of being an influencer?
Shutes: I love hearing that my content made someone smile and laugh. Teaching is all about making an impact on students and being able to do that for people around the world, is a very humbling and gratifying experience.
Cox: What is your least part of being an influencer?
Shutes: There will always be people that throw hate and negativity towards others. Social media is an easy place for this to happen as it allows those individuals to hide behind their phones. Reading through these types of comments doesn’t bother me at all but it is time consuming to filter out and delete these comments.
